Who & What Is SARFA Creative Academy?
About Me – The Journey of a Dream Becoming Reality
I am the face, founder, and CEO of SARFA Creative Academy. My name is Fatiema, and my journey is one of resilience, passion, and an unshakable dream.
Born in 1986, at a time when apartheid was nearing its end, I was raised in a deeply traditional family—one where music and art pulsed through our veins. Yet, despite this rich cultural backdrop, I often felt like I was never quite enough.
From a young age, I saw the realities of struggle—the homeless on the streets, the daily battles of ordinary people, and the sacrifices my mother made to give us a better life. She was a force of strength like no other, walking through the rain to catch a bus to work, earning just enough to keep us afloat. But she never let us feel deprived—she gave us everything she could, and more.
Determined to rise above our circumstances, I dedicated myself to academics, pushing beyond my limits—not just for myself, but to honor my mother’s sacrifices. At just nine years old, I took my first entrepreneurial step, selling koeksisters door to door every Sunday morning. It wasn’t just about making money—it was about learning resilience, independence, and the value of hard work.
And from that spark, a dream was born…
The Journey of Hardship & Growth
As a child, I was often a loner, lost in my own world, playing "school" or pretending to run a store. By 13, I decided to take a leap—I walked into every local shop, asking for an opportunity. Eventually, I started as a potato peeler and worked my way up.
Over the years, I explored my passions—running a home-based beauty salon, doing hair and makeup, and later venturing into baking, creating wedding and birthday cakes. I wore many hats, learning and growing through each experience.
But life wasn’t always kind. I faced hardships that left deep scars—emotional wounds I still carry today. (For a deeper dive, check out my YouTube & Twitch channels). Despite the pain, my drive for success kept me going. I climbed the corporate ladder to become an Operations Manager, only to hit rock bottom due to a toxic relationship.
Losing everything, I spiraled into severe depression and anxiety—something I had battled since being diagnosed at just eight years old. Yet, even in my darkest moments, I never lost my desire to help others. I found purpose in uplifting people, encouraging them to chase their dreams. Many employees I worked with went on to become managers, and those who felt stuck found new motivation.
Despite losing my entire family (More on YouTube), and relocating to a city with one of the highest unemployment rates, I refused to give up.
the passion for everything I do.
Turning Pain Into Purpose – The Birth of SARFA Creative Academy
Through every challenge, I realized that my hardships were shaping me for something greater. My experiences, struggles, and triumphs all led me to this moment.
Today, I stand as a proud female entrepreneur who believes that everything happens for a reason. I have earned multiple diplomas and certificates, equipping me with the knowledge to make a real impact. As a mother of three, my children are my greatest inspiration—I refuse to let depression or setbacks define me.
From drafting a Hair & Nails business plan to now launching Fresh In Jozi – Authentic Cape Malay Cuisines, my journey is proof that perseverance pays off. But this is just the beginning. Over time, SARFA Creative Academy will expand, introducing two more sectors focused on youth empowerment, parental support, awareness, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
A Vision for the Future
As an artist in many aspects, SARFA Creative Academy was never meant to focus on just one thing. It was built to empower communities, create opportunities, and give children a chance at a better future.
Don’t blink—you might miss the career opportunity meant for you.
